Rumours circulated regarding an open-top Huayra for years but only as of late did we get a substantial foothold on what it looks like. They decided to woo us again with their latest creation, ladies and gentlemen, the Huayra Roadster.
For starters, this isn’t your fancy chopped-top-now-defunct Huayra Pearl we saw last year. It’s a bit more than that. the tuned 6.0L Mercedes-AMG V12 with its redesigned turbochargers gives off 764hp at 6,200rpm and 1,000 Nm of torque at a low 2,400 rpm, which, according to Pagani, “provide an immediate throttle response without delay”. This makes the Huayra Roadster 14hp more powerful and 70kg lighter than its BC sibling.
The engine is then mated with a single-clutch seven speed transmission developed by X-track that is mounted transversely, notably reducing the polar moment of inertia. While electronic differential together with advanced control system ensure smooth shifting and transfer of power to the Pirelli PZero Corsa tires.
Long time partner Brembo supplied the stopping power with carbon ceramic implant 380×34 mm disks with 6-piston caliper at the front, 4-piston caliper at the rear.
Influenced by the 1950s Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300 SL and its Roadster version, the design follows the contours of the Huayra Coupe and Huayra BC but with an added flare. Add into the mix the in-house developed composite materials Carbo-Titanium and Carbo-Triax HP52—materials more advanced than that of Formula 1, made the Roadster achieved 52% more structural rigidity, all while still maintaining a respectable weight.
“Pensiamo a Huayra Coupè, alla sua linea elegante e senza tempo, Huayra Roadster doveva esserne la sorella ribelle, formosa e bellissima ma con quel tocco di malizia tipico di chi è spensierato”.
“If we think of the Huayra Coupe as a personification of elegance and timeless lines, the Huayra Roadster was to be the rebellious sister, shapely and beautiful, but with a sharp edge for those who are careless.”
Like most Paganis, only 100 units to be made, all sold. Base price is € 2,280,000 + VAT.
