Frankfurt, Germany – Porsche tickles us on an idea of its own electric sports car termed Mission E.
Some crunching numbers:
- Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in <3.5 sec
- Top Speed: >250 km/h
- Power: >440 kW (>600 hp)
- Range (fully charged): >500 km
One of the nuisances owning an electric vehicle is long hours of charging. Porsche managed to circumvent this by using 800V system that can be charged up to 80% capacity within 15min. Without a combustion engine, or transmission tunnel, occupants can enjoy significant cabin space despite its 1300mm height.
Amalgamation of aluminium, carbon fibre, and other forms of steel gave the Mission E a lightweight but strong monocoque that prompted the elimination of B-pillar. It is very reminiscent of Porsche’s 918 Spyder hybrid sports car; designed to look like a two-door but is actually a four-door sedan. Side mirrors have given way to fender-mounted cameras that project images at each corner of the windscreen. Added technological feat are the eye-tracking navigation control and induction charging (wirelessly). Plugged-in charging is readily available and accessible through its front fender.
Though plainly an exercise from Porsche’s part, it is not surprising to say that most of these features will be adapted in their future models.
